Associate Provost of Learning Initiatives

& Executive Director of Teaching & Learning Transformation Center

University of Maryland, College Park

Oversees professional development around teaching and learning, our MOOCs (https://www.coursera.org/umd), and is developing capabilities around learning analytics. As a long-time UMD Professor of Computer Science in the area of Human-Computer Interaction, my background is in thinking about how to design interactive systems to support people to accomplish their goals. Liz Scarbrough

Director, Academic Achievement Center

Towson University

Mrs. Scarbrough has a passion for helping children, young adults and families. She joined Towson University over 15 years ago, first as a technology trainer and then as a learning specialist. Mrs. Scarbrough received her B.A. in chemistry from the University of San Diego, followed by her M.S. in chemistry from Carnegie Mellon University. Most recently she completed her M.Ed. in early childhood education at Towson University. In her free time her greatest joy is spending time with family. She also enjoys solving puzzles, playing games and working for College for Kids.

 

Heather W. Holmes, Ph.D.

Director, Center for Student Achievement

Salisbury University

Dr. Heather Holmes has been a higher education administrator for 30 years with experience as an educator in student and campus life; progressive experience in academic achievement, academic support programs, grant administration, residence life, student union management, orientation, first year experience, student activities, judicial affairs, Greek life, and leadership.

 

In 1999, Dr. Holmes earned her Ph.D. at the University at Buffalo where she served as the Director of Orientation and Student Activities.  She holds a Master’s Degree in Higher Education Administration from Syracuse University (1990) and a Bachelor of Science in Education from SUNY Cortland (1986).  She is a member of Omicron Delta Kappa National Leadership Honorary Society and Phi Eta Sigma National Honorary Society.  She has been certified by International Center for Supplemental Instruction at UMKC.  She is a member of NCLCA and CRLA.  Dr. Holmes serves as the co-advisor to Relay for Life at Salisbury University.  She was the first Director hired to design and create the programs and services in the Center for Student Achievement in 2008 to the present

 

Annie Foster Ahmed

Annie Foster Ahmed received her Master’s Degree in Science Education from the State University of Buffalo (SUNY) and a B.S. in Biology from Daemen College. Prior to joining the CAS team, she worked with Pre-College Programs at the University of Maryland and was responsible for the day-to-day management of two TRiO Programs: Upward Bound and Upward Bound-Math/Science Programs. Both programs were funded by the U.S. Department of Education and were designed to prepare low-income and first-generation college students for success in college through academic, personal and social development.  Her focus has been on teacher training, staff development, programming and on teaching study skills strategies.  She has presented at various conferences such as the Council for Opportunity In Education (COE), the Mid-Eastern Association of Educational Opportunity Personnel (MEAEOPP), and the Maryland Executive Council for Educational Opportunities (MECEO).
